![]() Note: The reason for renaming the Background layer is that deleted selections on the Background layer are replaced not with transparency but by the current background color as defined in the toolbar. Turn off the visibility of the duplicate layer or delete it. Here is what we have so far (I started on a solid blue Background layer):ħ. Activate the Move tool and hold down both and while dragging any corner handle inward. Invert the selction so that the ring is again selected.Ħ. The circle is now on transparent background.Ĥ. Another way to get the circle is to set in the options bar: Style Fixed Aspect Ratio, and Width & Height both 1 (or other same value). The forces the drawn ellipse to be circular. Choose the Elliptical Marquee tool, and holding down draw out your circle. ![]() If you are working on the Background layer, rename it to anything else.Ģ. In the upper settings bar, click the Stroke. Here is another method to make your ring.ġ. To outline a shape in Photoshop, select your shape layer in the Layers Panel and press U to active the shape tool. You will now have an outline around the subject of your image. This will increase the size of the outline around the cutout. For small stroke values this works well, but large values result in a jagged circle, as in this example with a stroke size of 200px: Finally, set the size of your stroke with the Size slider. If your background is white, you will not see the white of the stroke - need contrast. CTRL+left click the shape layer in the layers palette - should see marching ants. Regarding the Stroke method, there is a maximum stroke size which may not be enough for your needs. Simplify the shape layer, and Edit>stroke will be available. ![]()
